ASA-X Scheduled Maintenance August 2025
The ASA-X system will be shut down for scheduled maintenance August 3-9, 2025.
A big change is making the HPC firewall deny-by-default to meet more stringent security standards. That means you won't be able to access ASA-X from a home computer unless we have put your home IP address in the firewall whitelist. We plan to generate an initial whitelist from recent connections, so that shouldn't affect many people immediately. However, if you get a message like "session timed out", you may have to email hpc@asc.edu to get your home IP address added. This happens periodically since home firewalls get new IP addresses when they are rebooted or the network provider does maintenance.
Other changes during this shutdown include;
* Upgrading Rocky Linux from version 8.9 to version 9.4. We don't expect this to have a significant effect on users.
* PBS configuration changes to shorten wait times in queues if possible.
* Changes needed to allow us to implement new features in the future.
Any jobs that can not complete before the shutdown will be held pending. We will attempt to preserve the pending job list.
Any files left in the /scratch directory or /scratch-local directory will be erased as part of this work.
If there are any questions or concerns, please address them to the HPC technical staff at hpc@asc.edu.
